promote the writing projects of life-partners Mr. Jan Ewing, aka Boss, and
Mr. William J. Cataldi, aka pup.
(June 8, 2022) Our production of Ivan VI has been cancelled.
Check back on the Ivan VI page for updates on future movement. Thanks.
(June 2022) Happy Pride Month to everyone. Check out our Pride Literature page for relevant pieces.
(March 15, 2022) Today we published Ewing Reviewing 2021 in a full-color edition, replete with 45 reviews of plays staged in 2021, and also six essays by movers and shakers within the independent theater community. This is the fourth book in our series on New York off- and off-off-Broadway theater. The series is an important document of theater that might otherwise be lost to history. Be sure to check out the pages for previous years' editions: Ewing Reviewing 2020 with a beautiful photo spread by Dan Lane Williams worth the price of the book; and Ewing Reviewing 2018/2019.
(November 26, 2021) For thirty years, I have felt that as long as Stephen Sondheim was alive,
everything would be okay. We are in despair over his death at age 91 today.
He was one of a small handful of the greatest artists, the greatest men, whom humanity has produced.
There are no words to express our immense suffering at this loss.
(January 2022) Welcome. The year has seen many new theater reviews in Ewing Reviewing; new and old work in the pup's writing blog; Ivan VI, Jan's masterpiece; and the publication of Ewing Reviewing 2020. So you can see we've had a busy year. The older download pages still exist, and we encourage you to read some of the best writing we have done over the years on those pages: Pride Literature, for work of interest to LGBTQ and other flexible-minded folks; and Sample PDFs, for work of special interest to thinking humans in general. Finally, if we hold your interest long enough, please reward us by purchasing a book or two in Buy Books. May the New Year 2022 be as productive as last, for us and you. Go Webb!
(October 2021) This month we celebrate the twenty-seventh year of our extremely useful and productive partnership. We could not be the writers we are individually, if we hadn't had such intense time spent with one another. Like Dante and Beatricia, or Abelard and Heloise, or Paolo and Francesca, we will truly be known as Boss and pup, inseparable, for hundreds of years after our demise.
For our theater review work, go to Ewing Reviewing.
Our theater review work is done in conjunction with Hi! Drama,
Eva Heinemann's legendary off- and off-off-Broadway salon.
You can check out Hi! Drama's biweekly video show at this link.

"Art is like playing with fire. Neither one of us knows how to manipulate the fire without getting burnt.
I come away from writing projects an absolute mess, covered in wounds and scars."

Despite a ray of hope with the success of the Biden transition, the world remains a deeply self-divided, angry place. We look back fondly on an innocent time that never really existed, when Americans pretended at least, that we were all sisters and brothers. We take refuge in art and the humanity art encourages.
Mr. Ewing, a classically trained musician, has directed theater across the country, and has written dozens of books. His pornography, written under the pseudonym Jack Evans, is in the collection of Cornell University. He is presently working as a New York theater critic for Hi! Drama, and is currently producing his magnificent new play, Ivan VI., which is planned for early summer 2022. He is working on the balance of The Red Headed Kid, an autobiographical novel, Parts 1 & 2 of which are now available on Amazon. Part 3 is in the works.

Mr. Cataldi attended Wesleyan University, SUNYAB, and CCNY, but never completed his degree. He studied Humanities and Math. He avidly practices his Christian Taoist religion. He has taken a break, after two years, from writing theater reviews. Currently, he contributes to pup's writing, his blog for new pieces. His first book, written in 2015, Sex and God and Other Essays, explores his religion, sexuality, and an assortment of philosophical topics. He has written a play, Love v. Marriage, which he currently promotes. He finds comfort in his blue-collar existence.
